Course Description:
The emphasis will be on developing good composition in a painting as well as developing a painterly technique. Also, to develop an understanding of color harmonies, the painting process, and becoming familiar with paint as a physical material. The main goal is to create a sense of Visual Awareness in the world we live in. “It’s just Paint”!
Requirements:
Students should have minimal drawing skills. Also, they should have a general knowledge of the color wheel. Students should be self motivated. The class will not be taught as a “beginning class”, but rather, individual instruction, one on one.
Supply List:
Media: Oil or Acrylic – Basic Set of Studio (4oz) size tubes of paint, or buy the tubes individually.
Brushes: You will need three or four different sizes. 1/8”, ¼”, ½”, ¾” Some will have flat ferrules and some will have round ferrules.
Oil – natural hog bristle, Acrylic – Nylon or synthetic. Some brushes are designed for either medium.
Solvents: Oil – odorless Turpentine. Acrylic – Water. You will need a container for this solvent. Plastic for water, Metal (tin can) or glass for Turp.
Mediums: Oil – (artist) Linseed Oil or equivalent. Acrylic – Clear Gloss Medium.
Palettes: Either disposable or permanent. Surface should be impervious to oil or water.
Supports: Canvas, either pre-stretched or canvas boards. Size suggested, 16” x 20” or Larger.
A Sketch Book #2 pencils will be handy. Also a container to carry your Stuff!
