Nashville has a great variety of architectural styles represented in its skyline. This is very evident in the tops of seven historic buildings selected for this 1995 lithograph. They collectively exemplify the many colors, shapes and designs of structures in Tennessee's capitol city.

They were also picked because they represent different aspects of Nashville life and opportunities...then and now. Government is shown in the Capitol (completed in 1859) and the Customs House (1883). Religion is depicted in St. Mary's Catholic (1845) and First Baptist (1883) church towers. Education is represented by the top of Jubilee Hall at Fisk University (1876). The Romanesque design of Union Station (1900) is a reminder of many transportation facilities and the Silver Dollar Saloon (1893) still stands as an example of early entertainment facilities.
