Market Street (SOLD OUT PRINT) framed

Product Description

Print number 63/500 - SOLD OUT in 1981 - framed with cherry frame, 2 acid free mats, acid free backing and conservation glass.

This very unusual 1979 limited edition print depicts all twenty of the extremely interesting buildings along the Eastern side of what is now known as Second Avenue North.

The extra long block, stretching between Broad and Church Streets, makes up a major portion of old historic Market Street in downtown Nashville. The importance of the Victorian architecture preserved in the ancient but colorful brick edifices has earned the area a prestigious listing in the National Register of Historic Districts. The buildings still serve well as offices and warehouses for many firms and businesses.

For many years, the past was honored as Nashville celebrated a Courthouse Day and Market Street Festival. The annual event transformed Second Avenue into a beehive of activity as community members and visitors enjoyed the excitement of local merchants selling their wares in the market booths out on the street which was limited to pedestrian traffic only. The whole area recaptured the atmosphere, excitement and warm appeal it had a century earlier when it was THE market street of Nashville.
