James Buchanan, an early settler in the Nashville area, began building this charming log house in 1800. It was enlarged in 1820 as his family grew and eventually numbered 16 children.

The home is built of chestnut logs with flooring made of popular planks. The original limestone fireplaces on each end of the structure provide focal points for the parlor and bride's room.

After 1865, the house was owned by the Frazier family, its most prominent raised here was James B. Frazier, a Tennessee Governor and U.S. Senator.

The home is listed on the National Register of Hictoric Places. It is now the property of the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (APTA) and is operated and maintained by the Donelson-Hermitage Chapter.
