This 1996 skyline "protrait" of Nashville depicts a city celebrating many exciting aspects of life in Tennessee's capitol city. The view painted by Phil Ponder shows downtown sites as seen from the northwest area of town...a perspective of the city not covered in his four earlier skyline prints.

Featured in the foreground is the Bicentennial Mall which stretches from Jefferson Street to Capitol Hill. Its many wonderful attractions represent the people of the state, the natural and commercial benefits, the complex state history through 200 years and special recognition of 95 counties.

On the lower right side is the new Farmers Market. It was relocated to accommodate the mall construction plan. The buildings on the far right are Union Station and the Centennial Tower of the Baptist Sunday School Board. The tall building, formerly American General, is headquarters for many state related agencies.

The Capitol building, constructed in the 1850's, is highlighted at the top of the grassy hill. Behind it are Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza and Stouffer Hotel.

Buildings clustered on the left include those primarily occupied by BellSouth ("Batman"), Life & Casualty, SunTrust, First Union, NationsBank, Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC), Nashville City Center and various offices of prominent Nashville and Tennessee corporations and professionals.
