Equally adept at oil and acrylic painting, airbrush and dry media, Sue Ellen Brown has enjoyed over four decades of success in the commercial and fine art worlds.

Prior to earning concurrent degrees in both Fine Art and Advertising Design from the University of North Texas, Sue Ellen studied classical painting techniques under W.P. Hansen of Houston. Upon graduation, she assisted Dallas illustrator Don Ivan Punchatz, then worked for six years as a staff artist with Hallmark, where she developed a wide repertoire of style and subject, and a whimsical sense of artistic humor that persists to the present day.

Sue Ellen has illustrated children’s books for a variety of publishers, and worked with commercial clients such as McDonalds, Denny’s, and Pepsi, producing countless images for promotional materials ranging from giftwrap to Happy Meals.

Sue Ellen’s focused technique and attention to detail have earned her two Paragon Awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, and inclusion in the New York City Society of Illustrators’ Humor Exhibition. In addition, her expertise in mystical and symbolic expression led to publication of her work in the Encyclopedia of Fantasy and Science Fiction Art Techniques, and the Magic: The Gathering card series.

In addition to her commercial work, Sue Ellen continues to produce paintings in a range of graphic, impressionist, and illustrative styles, from an emotive series of seashell abstractions to her whimsical Dracoserific alphabet, made entirely of dragons. Whatever the subject, her work describes volumes within an elegantly designed space, from endearing animal characters to richly crafted fantasies, dripping with mythic detail.
